"Then God said, “Let us make man [including woman] in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.”
- Genesis 1:26-27

Imago Dei means created in the image of God. We read in this passage that we are created in His image, but what does it mean to be created in God’s image?

Twinsies…not really…

Some people have thought that being made in God’s image means that we physically resemble Him. Nah, the closet we get to that is that He became like us in form through Jesus, but that’s not what the bible meant when it describes us as being made in His image.

Mirror, mirror…

So if we don’t look like God then how are we created in His image?

We are created in the likeness of who He is. That means we are created to love each other in the same beautiful unity of the Trinity... Father. Son. Spirit.

What that looks like is learning to yield to His leading, we learn not just to do what we want or what serves and meets our desires best, but we make room for each other.

We work together to build each other up in love, to build the body of Christ together. Just like the Trinity works together. Not each individual trying to be the best at something. As we all link arms and work together, we help each other be the best versions of who God created us to be.

Pretty cool right?

No more competition

And breathe….

Selah (pause and calmly think on that).

What a relief right?

We don’t have to be the best at anything other than being ourselves! So set aside that need to be the best, and begin to have the attitude of helping each other be the best version of who God created us to be. Then you will find yourself becoming more like Jesus.

Made. In. His. Image.
